Gay Softball World Series begins in North Texas – KRLD

The National American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance is beginning play in the Gay Softball World Series Monday in Dallas. Competition starts Monday at Kiest Park and will continue through Saturday.

In addition to Kiest, teams are playing at McInnish Park in Carrollton, Parks at Texas Star in Euless and Waxahachie Sports Complex.

Five thousand players from 48 cities in the U.S. and Canada are participating. The tournament was last played in Dallas in 2014.

“We are really excited to be back in the Big D, and we could not have been greeted with a warmer reception,” said NAGAAA Commissioner John Defee.

The Dallas Sports Commission said participants and fans will spend $16 million in North Texas over the next week.

“Dallas certainly offers a lot of opportunity for sports enthusiasts, and we hope all the contestants, players, coaches and fans visiting Dallas have a great experience here in our great city,” said Executive Director Monica Paul.

“Of course this means a little bit more to me simply because I am a baseball enthusiast, softball enthusiast, a sports enthusiast in general, but I’m also a member of the LGBTQ+ community,” said Dallas City Councilman Omar Narvaez.

Narvaez said the tournament will bring additional attention to North Texas as the area tries to build an international reputation.

“What does this all mean? It just proves and shows what a welcoming and inclusive city the City of Dallas is,” he said.

The Gay Softball World Series continues through Saturday. Details are available at https://www.dallasgsws.org/ .
