Gay Republicans endorse Sarah Palin – LGBTQ Nation
The Log Cabin Republicans, like large swathes of the GOP, embraced Donald Trump and everything he stood for. Now the group of conservative queers is endorsing Sarah Palin in her bid to become Alaska’s sole member of the House of Representatives.
The organization has defended Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law by comparing its opponents to pedophiles, opposed landmark LGBTQ nondiscrimination legislation, and has repeatedly been soundly rejected by the Republican Party.
The group has targeted Chasten Buttigieg, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg’s husband, in an effort to portray him as an effete gadfly. Chasten Buttigieg is a former elementary school teacher and he was an outspoken critic of the Florida law.
The radicalized organization has also compared LGBTQ people to child molesters, saying queer teachers are trying to “groom” and “indoctrinate” young kids.
After spending the past few years decrying LGBTQ equality and denigrating the “leftist” community in general and transgender people in particular, the Log Cabin Republicans found out that people were finally listening to them. Unfortunately for them, it was their own Party. The Texas chapter was denied even a minimal gesture of inclusion – a booth at the state GOP convention.
“Log Cabin is PROUD to endorse @SarahPalinUSA for Congress!” the group tweeted. “Palin is a trailblazer who paved the way for the America First movement. Her commitment and dedication to Alaska is unparalleled and admirable. Palin will protect individual liberties for all Americans!”
Palin, for her part, graciously accepted the endorsement, tweeting “Thank you @LogCabinGOP!” with an American flag emoji. She included a graphic with a longer statement. Neither the tweet nor the statement mentioned that the group was for LGBTQ people.
Palin lost a special election in Alaska to replace deceased Rep. Don Young (R). Democrat Mary Peltola thumped Palin and Republican Nick Begich III to take the seat. The three will face off again in the general election.
Peltola is the first Alaska Native and first woman to serve as Alaska’s sole representative. The last time a Democrat held the seat was 49 years ago.
And the gay group’s endorsement met the same response online as the org’s bid for acceptance and Palin’s hopes for higher office. The LGBTQ community scorned it and Republicans ignored it.
“Republicans will protect liberty of Republican, except LGBTQ,” one person responded back to the announcement. “Are you going to promote and defend LGBTQ someday?”
Republicans will protect liberty of Republican, except LGBTQ. Are you going to promote and defend LGBTQ someday?
