Gay B. Roland – Waterbury Republican American

LAKESIDE – Gay Baldwin Roland, 81, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 23, 2022, surrounded by family.

She was born and raised in Thomaston, to Grace and George Baldwin. Gay was an accomplished dancer and a registered nurse who loved traveling and caring for her many pets.

Gay married Don D. Roland in 1962 and raised their five children in Morris. She had a long career as a nurse and supervisor at the New Milford Nursing Home. Gay also worked as a school nurse at local schools, including Wamogo Regional High School, where she taught nurses aide training.

Owning and instructing at her dance school in Thomaston, Gay was known throughout the community for her yearly recitals featuring many of the local children. As her family grew, Gay became a troop leader for Girl Scouts of America. Even after her own children had grown, she continued to be an active leader for many years.

Gay was predeceased by her husband of 59 years. She is survived by her son, Mark Roland; her daughters, Dawn Norton, Kim Roland, Kelley Shemms, Tracy Barger; and eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be scheduled by the family.

Memorial donations in place of flowers can be sent to the animal shelter Little Guild of St. Francis. Gay loved her many pets and was always working to support those in need.
