Bevin Bru came into the second season “Batwoman” expecting to have the time of her life.

And she did.

In the second season of “Batwoman,” when Ryan Wilder, played by Javicia Leslie, first discovers Kate Kane’s Batsuit, she has no idea how drastically her life is about to change. A sassy, smart lesbian with a difficult past, Wilder sees the suit as her chance to finally be powerful and no longer a victim as she survives in the tough streets of the city.

While Wilder goes rogue in the shadows, Gotham grapples with the disappearance of its hero, believing Batwoman has fled the city after a public standoff with Commander Jacob Kane, played by Dougray Scott, and the Crows. But Kate Kane’s disappearance hits hardest at home, where Jacob, Sophie, played by Meagan Tandy, Luke, played by Camrus Johnson, Mary, played by Nicole Kang, and even Alice, played by Rachel Skarsten, each struggle with the devastating news in their own way. Meanwhile, the False Face Society tightens its grip on Gotham, distributing a perilous new drug known as Snakebite; “Bruce Wayne” finds his way home to wreak havoc; Safiyah, played by Shivaani Ghai, surfaces with plans for revenge, and a new set of villains descends on the city.

……………………………………………………….

As chaos and uncertainly proliferate, Wilder realizes how much the symbol on the suit means to Gotham, launching her on a personal journey that takes her from fledgling substitute to confident caped crusader, from living in her van with her plant to chasing villains in the Batmobile. Ryan Wilder becomes a very different Batwoman from Kate Kane – her own Batwoman – but with the same understanding of what it means to be a hero. The second season is available to watch on the CW app in its entirety.

Martin is also Wilder’s girlfriend.

“Angelique is a really fun character, and she speaks her mind,” Bru says. “She doesn’t fall into the victim role at all. She owns herself and her beliefs. She’s also willing to say, ‘I was wrong.’ ”

Bru says being able to play Angelique was amazing.

“She is street-smart, and it’s realistic,” she says. “She deals with things as they come. To see someone who is truly street-smart and still be surprised is amazing.”

Bru says that when she got the audition, her naivete really showed.

“I had to do a scene between me and my girlfriend, Candace,” she says. “I didn’t know who that was. Little did I know that I was actually going to be Ryan’s girlfriend. It was fun to discover it, and it gives even more representation.”

Being cast in the second season was also a little intimidating for Bru.

“It was already this well-oiled machine,” she says. “I have to say that the show was amazing before, and this season, the writers have taken it up another level. There’s so much talent, and this is my first TV role. When I was ready to come on set, we had to quarantine and everyone created this group text chat. I’ve never felt so loved before, and everyone brought their best to this.”

Acting has always been at the forefront for Bru, which is why she’s found a home on the set of “Batwoman.”

She was born and raised in Miami and fell in love with being on stage and acting at 8 years old when she started doing community plays.

From that point on, she had one goal, and that was to make it to New York City and Los Angeles when she was of age to pursue her dreams of making it in the entertainment business.

At 18, Bru moved from Miami to New York City to attend the American Musical and Dramatic Academy to further her education.

When she was 19 years old, Bru left AMDA and began wrestling training with the goal of one day debuting as a professional wrestler. However, after her first match she quickly realized that her heart wasn’t in it and decided to put everything back into acting.

She ended up going on three touring children’s shows before moving to Los Angeles in 2016.

Bru has a passion for health and wellness and teaches fitness classes in Santa Monica, California, from time to time when she isn’t filming.

She is also an active member of the LGBTQIA+ community, having gay parents, a gay brother and being bisexual herself. The community has always been a big part of her life.

She believes that changes in the industry are important so that Latinx stories can be told – especially Cuban stories. And she wants to inspire more Cuban actors, directors and writers to pursue their dreams in Hollywood.

“I’m actually training for a triathlon right now,” she says. “I’ve begun making myself believe that I don’t have bad ankles and knees. I’m taking care of my body now.”
