From Accusations about a Singer Being a Copycat to a Gay Man Being Featured on UK Pound, This Week in LGBT Entertainment – SouthFloridaGayNews.com

This week read about Lil Nas X being accused of copying another singer in his new music video, Alan Turing being featured on the United Kingdom’s currency, and the return of Harley Quinn.

Is Lil Nas X a Copycat?

Accusations that Lil Nas X copied a certain scene from FKA twigs music video “cellophane” has been going around ever since Lil Nas X dropped his music video for his track “MONTERO.”

The scene that is getting all the attention happens to be the stripper pole scene. In “MONTERO,” Lil Nas X is seen descending a stripper pole that starts in heaven and leads to hell.

According to Out.com, “There’s no winning when this happens … Been copied before but this feels different. Lil Nas X’s label contacted me [at the] end of last year. Pivoted away then hired the same choreographer from ‘Cellophane,’” Photographer and Director Andrew Thomas Huang said in an Instagram story.

Some fans have even taken it upon themselves to make side-by-side comparisons and posted them on Twitter.

While nothing has been mentioned by Lil Nas X or his crew at the moment, fans are left with no concrete answers.

Gay mathematician, cryptographer and biologist Alan Turing is the new face of the United Kingdom’s 50 note.

Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey said, “Turing is best known for his code-breaking work at Bletchley Park, which helped end the Second World War. However … he was also gay, and was treated appallingly as a result. By placing him on our new polymer £50 banknote, we are celebrating his achievements, and the values he symbolizes,” according to Out.com.

Turing was treated terribly for being gay. He was treated so badly that he would be chemically castrated after his arrest in 1952, Out.com reported.

Out.com noted that Government Communications Headquarters Director Jeremy Fleming said, “His legacy is a reminder of the value of embracing all aspects of diversity, but also the work we still need to do to become truly inclusive.”

The new note sports Turing’s face on one side in red, while a quote he gave The Times in 1949, is placed at the bottom of his picture. It reads “This is only a foretaste of what is to come and only the shadow of what is going to be.”

Turing was mistreated for being gay; his arrest would prevent him from cracking any more codes for the British signals intelligence agency, Out.com reported. Turing would later take his life via cyanide capsule in 1954 when he was 41 years old.

“The choice of Alan Turing and the manner in which it was arrived at by public nomination marks another step in our nation’s long-overdue recognition of this very great man,” actor and writer Stephen Fry said in a Youtube video.

The ever-elegant, maniacal, and colorful bisexual antihero is back and ready for some more action. Yes we are talking about none other than Harley Quinn.

The mallet-toting maniac is set to appear once again on the big screen in “The Suicide Squad.”

Quinn, played by Margot Robbie, is set to take the main stage with another big name, Idris Elba, who will play Bloodsport.

While these two are set to headline the flick, the roster for this movie is jam-packed with colorful characters.

This Suicide Squad is taking place five years after the launch of the first “Suicide Squad” movie, where the audience got to see Robbie portray Quinn for the first time on the big screen.

If the sequel is anything like the first, then the box office grosses are going to look good.

Suicide Squad also performed well at the box office, grossing 746.8 million globally, against a $175 million production budget, according to Arstechnica.
