Last Friday, I learned that fascists are running Marshall Public Schools. According to Erick Kaardal, the attorney for Marshall Concerned Citizens, MPS is an institution “practicing fascist-style tactics,” as if they are transforming students into paramilitary cadres who will obey every word of the great leader — whoever that is –while crushing all opposition.
We could laugh at Kaardal’s ridiculous logic, were it not so dangerous. U.S. soldiers and sailors fought the fascist threat to democracy during World War Two, therefore fascists are our enemies, who should be jailed if not executed.
The couple who wore swastika-emblazoned face masks at Walmart last year, bringing international notoriety to Marshall, asserted that everyone would be doing the same if Joe Biden was president. They were motivated by the same claim that Kaardal made about MPS. What if their protest had also included weapons?
With guns blazing, they could have targeted Walmart employees as Nazi collaborators.
Harvard-educated Erick Kaardal, born and raised in Redwood Falls, knows what happened last year at Walmart, but still dropped the f-bomb on MPS, endangering lives. He is currently an attorney for the Amistad Project, which works with former President Trump to reverse the results of the 2020 election; Kaardal represents groups in Wisconsin challenging the electoral outcome there. The complainants will win nothing, but Kaardal will enjoy his attorney fees and, more importantly, notoriety for his budding career as an “expert” talking head for media that spreads fear and rage–starting with One America News where he has promoted unfounded claims of election fraud. Could the next stop be with Tucker Carlson?
Only if he continues to call his “enemies” fascists, and tear down our democracy by promoting Trump’s Big Lie about a “stolen” election.
Concerned Citizens of Marshall brought this rhetoric into the community. They should apologize and reject their attorney’s claim of “fascist-style tactics” by MPS.
However, if they have no concern for the wellbeing of gay, lesbian, and transexual schoolchildren, I doubt they care much for the safety of school administrators and teachers –but I would welcome it if they proved me wrong.
