HOPKINTON — Enter Stage Left Theater will present “The Laramie Project,” a 2000 play by Moisés Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project about the reaction to the 1998 murder of gay University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming.

Directed by Paul Champlin and featuring a cast of 16 from Hopkinton and surrounding towns, the three-act play focuses on the aftermath of Shepard’s brutal killing.

“‘The Laramie Project,’ while confronting the complexities of gay rights and its detractors as its main theme, is ultimately a human story, one of inclusion and alienation, fear and yearning, violence and love,” he said. “Our production will present as its focus, the people of Laramie, their unique stories and perspectives amidst these compelling circumstances.”

A talk back will be held after the performances on Oct.15 and 16 with Cathy Renna. Renna is the communications director for the national LGBTQ task force, and she played a central role while at GLAAD in shaping media coverage of the beating death of Matthew Shepard in 1998. She will be on hand to share her experience and help guide the conversation that is sparked by this piece.

There will be four performances at the The Delbridge Family Performance Space, 98 Hayden Rowe St., Hopkinton: Oct. 15, 16, 22 and 23 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 for students and seniors and $25 for adults. Additionally, student “rush” tickets will be available for any middle or high school students who would like to attend. A rush ticket is purchased after all previously ticketed patrons are seated; if there are seats still open, tickets are available to students for $10.
