Engineering trailblazers to be honoured by Metro and McLaren Racing – Metro.co.uk
Innovative engineers and world-changing employers will be honoured in a prestigious awards ceremony.
Metro.co.uk has partnered with McLaren Racing and the Royal Academy of Engineering to recognise the people breaking down barriers and making the industry accessible to absolutely everyone.
The Engineering Talent Awards will be held in London tomorrow, with a special focus on diversity.
It was all started by a gay safety engineer called Dr Mark McBride-Wright, the founder of EqualEngineers – a networking group for the LGBTQ+ community.
Dr McBride-Wright created the organisation after seeing the practical and safety consequences of an industry so dominated by one demographic – white men.
It has nominated companies for successfully running their own employee network groups, including the likes of Rolls-Royce, Transport for London and Dyson.
Engineers will, of course, be celebrated too, especially the person who wins the Outstanding Excellence in Engineering category.
This award will be presented by Metro.co.uk’s Executive Editor Richard Hartley-Parkinson and a representative from McLaren Racing.
Students from universities all over the country will also be recognised, as well as student engineering societies.
Dr McBride-Wright said: ‘There are some fantastic role models in the engineering and technology sectors working across the UK and so the Engineering Talent Awards rightly shine a light on their successes and ingenuity.
‘This is one of the major events in the UK that also gives a huge platform to our country’s engineering businesses as well as the organisations nurturing the next generation.
‘This year, we are particularly looking forward to celebrating the success of women in STEM as well as others from a range of diverse backgrounds.
‘These awards are a major recognition of the country’s finest and emerging engineering talent.’
