Daria Kasatkina comes out as gay, reveals she has girlfriend – Tennis World USA

Russian tennis star Daria Kasatkina has come out as gay as she has revealed that she is in a relationship with a girlfriend. Kasatkina, 25, spoke publicly for the first time about her orientation during a conversation with Russian blogger Vitya Kravchenko.

In a conversation with Kravchenko, Kasatkina applauded Russian football star Nadya Karpova – who recently came out as gay. “My respects to Nadya Karpova [for coming out], attagirl. I was happy for her, but also other people, especially girls who needed to know that.

It has empowered them for sure, supported them,” Kasatkina said, per Sportskeeda. “Not only did Nadya help herself by coming out and get this burden off her chest, she has also helped others.”

Kasatkina: I do have a girlfriend

When asked directly if she was in a relationship with a girlfriend, Kasatkina said yes.

“Yes, [I currently have a girlfriend],” Kasatkina admitted. Kasatkina, who is currently the top-ranked Russian female player, suggested she felt relieved and at peace after coming out. “Living in the closet is impossible.

Not for the long run, no. It is too hard. It is pointless, you will be completely focused on that until you choose to come out. Of course, it is up to you to decide how to do it and how much you tell,” Kasatkina said. “Living in peace with yourself is the only thing that matters, and f— everyone else.”

Meanwhile, Kasatkina returned to competitive action this week in Hamburg. After reaching back-to-back grass quarterfinals in Berlin and Bad Homburg, Kasatkina was forced to skip Wimbledon because of the ban the AELTC imposed on Russian players.

After having three weeks off, Kasatkina returned to action at this week’s WTA clay event in Hamburg. Unfortunately for Kasatkina, she didn’t make it far in Hamburg. In the Hamburg first round, Kasatkina suffered a surprise 6-2 2-6 6-4 loss to Katerina Siniakova.
