Coy Roper letter: Gay pride or the Bible? – Abilene Reporter-News
On Sept. 25, there will be a well-planned and impressive “gay pride” event in Abilene (Reporter-News, April 4).
This fact is somewhat surprising since such a large percentage of Abilenians profess to be followers of Christ and therefore presumably believe what the Bible teaches about morals.
Surprising since the Bible unquestionably teaches that homosexuality is wrong. Just as wrong, for instance, as adultery and fornication.
Of course, one doesn’t have to be a Bible believer to see that homosexuality is, at best, unnatural. People aren’t made that way.
Homosexuality is, according to our secular law, legal, just as adultery and fornication are legal. Therefore, if “gay” supporters want to promote their agenda they have the right to do so.
Maybe if adulterers and fornicators were better organized we would see “Adulterers’ Pride” or “Fornicators’ Pride” celebrations.
As I see it, the main problem is that the more society celebrates immorality — whether homosexuality, adultery or fornication — the more immoral society is likely to become.
I wonder if there were “gay pride” celebrations in Sodom?
