Colman Domingo To Portray Gay Rights Activist Bayard Rustin In Biographical Film – Full Circle Cinema
A few years back, Barack and Michelle Obama signed a production deal with Netflix to bring inclusive stories to the streaming service via their Higher Ground production banner. Now, the studio is gearing up to produce its first feature film and, according to Deadline, will enlist Euphoria star Colman Domingo in the starring role.
Per the initial report, the project, titled Rustin, is a biographical film following the life and times of gay rights activist Bayard Rustin. Born in 1912, Rustin famously worked with A. Philip Randolph on the March on Washington Movement, in 1941, to press for an end to racial discrimination in employment. In the 1980s, Rustin became a public advocate on behalf of gay causes, speaking at events as an activist and supporter of human rights. On November 20, 2013, President Barack Obama posthumously awarded Rustin the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The incomparable Domingo will portray Rustin in the biopic. He is joined in the cast by an all-star ensemble featuring Chris Rock, Audra McDonald, and Glynn Turman. Moreover, Barack and Michelle Obama will serve as the film’s executive producers. George C. Wolfe (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom) will write had direct the future, which is likely to land at Netflix. Colman Domingo’s filmography features memorable roles in groundbreaking films like Selma, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, and If Beale Street Could Talk. Most recently, the actor turned heads in performances opposite Zendaya in HBO’s hit series Euphoria. Additionally, Domingo touts a role in the recent supernatural slasher film Candyman.
