Chiefs activate Willie Gay Jr. ahead of Sunday night vs. Bills – Arrowhead Pride
The Kansas City Chiefs have activated second-year linebacker Willie Gay Jr. from the injured reserve list, as announced on the team’s official Twitter account Saturday afternoon.
We have activated LB Willie Gay from Injured Reserve. Gay will be listed on the injury report with a Toe injury and is Questionable for Sunday’s Game.
We have activated DE Demone Harris from the Practice Squad via Standard Elevation.

The team waived linebacker Darius Harris to make room for Gay on the 53-man roster, and it also announced the practice squad elevation of defensive end Demone Harris.
Gay, who returns to practice on Wednesday, joins defensive end Chris Jones and cornerback Charvarius Ward in being officially questionable for the team’s Sunday Night Football game against the Buffalo Bills.
“We’ll have to see — see how it goes here in the next couple of days with that,” Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said, when it came to Gay’s status. “As long as he can get in and know his stuff and feels comfortable with his foot, we’d be OK there.”
The Chiefs placed Gay on injured reserve after he suffered a turf toe injury in the team’s final preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings. He left Friday’s Chiefs practice due to personal reasons, according to Reid.
Demone Harris’ game-day promotion may suggest that perhaps Jones will not play in the game, especially considering he was out of practice all week. Rookie defensive end Joshua Kaindoh is also currently on injured reserve.
Demone has appeared in five regular-season games for the Chiefs over the past two seasons. As an elevated player, he will be automatically returned to the practice squad roster after Sunday night’s game.
Darius joined the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He played 33 special teams snaps for the Chiefs in 2021 but saw no action on defense.
