Charlie Kirk Slams GOP, Questions ‘Gay Corporations That Hate America’ – Newsweek
A close ally of former President Donald Trump is slamming the GOP and a certain type of business he says the Republican Party is helping.
On Tuesday night, Charlie Kirk, the founder and president of the conservative nonprofit Turning Point USA, took to social media to bring up issues he has with the state of the party.
“What’s the point of a ‘red wave’ in 2022 all we get is bipartisan gun-grabbing and lower tax rates for gay corporations that hate America? Voters deserve better from the Republican Party if they expect to regain this November,” Kirk posted on Twitter.
It’s unclear what specific businesses Kirk is referring to as “gay corporations.” Newsweek reached out to Kirk and Turning Point USA for clarification.
Over the weekend, a bipartisan group of senators announced that the framework for a gun safety legislation deal had been reached. Included in the proposal are enhanced background checks for would-be gun buyers under age 21, more funds for school security and mental health services, and additional money for states to implement “red-flag” laws.
The deal comes after many legislators, including President Joe Biden, clamored for more stringent gun laws after the deadly mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Twenty-one people, including 19 children, were killed after the gunman, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, opened fire inside the school.
Kirk isn’t the only one to criticize Republicans‘ approach to gun control. Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene is also not happy with the bipartisan proposal that has been put forward.
Hours after the agreement was announced, Greene said that “Senate Republicans are everything wrong in the GOP” and that “the Republican Party needs a drastic identity change for America to survive.”
It’s common for the president’s party to lose seats in the midterms, and projections from Politico and FiveThirtyEight forecast Republicans could take control of the House and the Senate. On Tuesday night, after Republican Mayra Flores’ victory in a special congressional election, billionaire Elon Musk, who said he voted for Flores, also predicted a “massive red wave in 2022.”
Last week, Kirk’s organization, Turning Point USA, announced it was launching Turning Point Academy in response to concerns from parents about public school education becoming too “woke.”
Kirk said that the educational system would teach “bedrock principles” such as self-government, liberty and honoring “God’s promises that all are created equal.”
The plan is for Turning Point’s new educational system to launch in collaboration with a private school in Arizona and expand to other locations.
