Celtics continue to shore up fronctourt depth with weekend signing – 98.5 The Sports Hub

Journeyman big man Luke Kornet is returning to the Boston Celtics after agreeing to a two-year contract, as reported by Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports last Friday.

Appearing in 12 games for Boston in the 2021-22 season, Kornet averaged 2.2 points and 2.7 rebounds in 7.1 minutes. The 7-foot-2 center also played in 11 G-League games with the Celtics, averaging 14.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists.

Kornet came back to the Celtics after the team waived him last October. He then bounced around the league, signing a 10-day contract with the Cavaliers that December, then with the Milwaukee Bucks in January. He played two games with Cleveland and one with Milwaukee, then re-signed with the Celtics in February.

There isn’t a reported number of Kornet’s annual salary, but it’ll almost certainly be a number that allows Boston to continue to look for a center who’s more likely to reliably back up Al Horford and Robert Williams next season.

An early (but urgent) look at the Celtics’ offseason to-do list
