Celebrities and Fans Share Touching Tributes to Aaron Carter – Them

Celebrities and fans have been sharing social media tributes to Aaron Carter after the 34-year-old singer’s death on Saturday.

The younger brother of Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter, Aaron found fame as a child pop star with songs like “I Want Candy” and “That’s How I Beat Shaq.” Carter released his first studio album, Aaron Carter, in 1997, and opened for the Backstreet Boys that same year. His fifth and final studio album, Love, debuted in 2018.

Carter is also remembered for his guest-starring roles on shows like 7th Heaven and Sabrina the Teenage Witch. He made a special appearance on a Christmas episode of Lizzie McGuire, sharing the screen with his then-girlfriend Hilary Duff.

In 2017, the singer came out as bisexual, sharing that as a teenager, he “started to find boys and girls attractive.”

“There’s something I’d like to say that I feel is important for myself and my identity that has been weighing on my chest for nearly half of my life,” Carter wrote on Twitter. “This doesn’t bring me shame, just a weight and burden I have held onto for a long time that I would like lifted off of me.”

He opened up about his struggles with substance abuse and mental health in a 2019 episode of The Doctors, sharing that he has been diagnosed with multiple personality disorder, schizophrenia, acute anxiety, and manic depression. He had a tumultuous relationship with his family, and in 2019 accused his late sister Leslie and his brother of abuse. Both have previously filed restraining orders against him. The singer is survived by his 11-month-old son, Prince, and his fiance, Melanie Martin.

Shortly after news of Carter’s death broke, many began sharing tributes online.

Nick Carter addressed the news of his brother’s untimely death on Sunday, writing, “My heart has been broken today” on social media.

“Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never faded. I have always held onto the hope that he would somehow, someday want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help he so desperately needed” he wrote alongside a collection of childhood photos. “Sometimes we want to blame someone or something for a loss, but the truth is that addiction and mental illness is the real villain here. I will miss my brother more than anyone will ever know.”
