Vote for Hometown Life Athlete of the Week

It’s time to vote for the athlete of the week. 

Here are the candidates for the latest athlete of the week poll. Voting is open until noon Wednesday. There is no limit to the number of votes, so vote early and often for your favorite player. 

Nominations are chosen by our staff reporters from games they cover and information provided to us. Coaches/statisticians are encouraged to send game information by emailing cgay@hometownlife.com. If you’d like to nominate an athlete, you are more than welcome, just send us an email.

The Candidates 

Samantha Coleman, Northville, golf 

The junior finished as a tournament medalist at the Sydney Carfine Memorial Tournament, recording a 69 — three strokes under par — to help the Mustangs earn the tournament win. Northville placed each of its five scorers in the top-10. 

Isabell Kulick, Salem, cross country 

The junior opened her cross country season with a win at the Lamplighter Invite, using a 6:13 mile pace to win the race at 19:19.8, 25 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Manaki Watanabe, South Lyon East, soccer 

The sophomore secured the draw against rival South Lyon in the season opener, taking a pass from junior Dylan Ruschak, spinning to adjust around a Lions defender and firing in the middle of the field for the Cougars’ first goal of the season.

Gabriella Tapp, South Lyon, golf 

In the team’s second tournament of the season at Hudson Mills, the sophomore set a score record: finishing with a 67 — five under par — to help the Lions finish first at 329, ahead of Plymouth and Hartland. Days later, Tapp broke her own school record, shooting six under par (66), helping South Lyon win the Hartland Invitational two strokes ahead of Ann Arbor Pioneer.
