Carolyn Gay | Obituary – The Independent

Carolyn Jean Gay Carolyn Jean Trout Gay (Doc), 84, of Ashland, Ky., passed away Sunday, April 11, 2021, at Woodland Oaks.
Carolyn was born August 20, 1936, in Ashland, Ky., a daughter of the late Justin P. and Eva Reid Trout.
Carolyn was a Vet for over 50 years serving the Summit, Boyd County, and Ashland areas. Carolyn graduated from Auburn University with her Veterinarian Degree. She was an avid UK basketball fan, she loved to fish, she enjoyed showing horses, she loved Boston Terriers and her Boston Terrier Precious, and she loved her family.
Carolyn is preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband of 41 years, Melton McCoy Gay, whom she married September 21, 1963; and a brother, J.D. Trout.
She is survived by her four children, Darlene (Gary) Payne of Ashland, Robert “Bobby” (Kim) Gay of New York, Billy (Lisa) Gay of Wheelersburg, and Melton McCoy Gay Jr. of Portsmouth; a sister, Virginia Cremeans of Flatwoods; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews.
Services for Carolyn will be conducted Thursday, April 15, 2021, at 12 p.m. by Brother Bob Hickman at Lazear Funeral Home Chapel in Ashland with burial to follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to service time Thursday.
Due to COVID-19, all in attendance are required to properly wear their masks and maintain a strict six-foot social distance.
Lazear Funeral Home is both honored and privileged to have been entrusted with the care of Mrs. Gay.
