Caroline ‘Gay’ Workman of Perry – theperrynews.com



Caroline “Gay” Workman, 89, of Perry passed away Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022, at the King’s Garden Campus of Perry Lutheran Homes in Perry, Iowa.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home and Cremation Care in Perry. Burial will be at the Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry, Iowa.

Caroline “Gay” Workman was born Oct. 19, 1933, in Cooper, Iowa, to Oris Alvin and Pauline Evelyn (Bellcock) McKinney.

She graduated from Yale High School with the class of 1950 and then went to the Thompson Beauty School in Des Moines.

Gay was united in marriage to Duane Eugene Workman at the Grace Methodist Church in Des Moines on March 5, 1960.

She worked in Des Moines for four years and then moved to Perry and worked at the Beauty Top Salon with Dora Lewis. She later worked at the Woodward State Hospital.

After marrying Duane, they farmed outside of Perry and then they moved to Guthrie Center. They moved to Fort Dodge and then back to Perry about 1970, and she worked at Granger Manor as a beautician.

Gay was a member of the First Christian Church in Perry.

She enjoyed fishing, reading romance novels, crocheting and gardening.

In death she rejoins her husband, Duane Workman; parents, Oris and Pauline McKinney; a brother, Billy McKinney; and her daughter, Jennifer Hornsby.

Left to cherish Gay’s memory are her children, Debbie Olson and David Workman; son-in-law, Russell Hornsby; brother, Dan (Joan) McKinney; grandchildren, Craig (April) Olson, Travis Olson, Dani (Kale) Anderson, Brittany (Jacob) Gibbs and Alex Workman; and great-grandchildren, Jaden Anderson, Brody Anderson, Brooklyn Gibbs, Ryder Gibbs, Madison Gibbs, Dylan Gibbs and Malcolm Olson.
