Board failed to act in banning Gay pride displays – Citrus County Chronicle

I am writing in response to the County Commissioners failure to ban “Gay Pride Displays” in Citrus County libraries. According to Commissioner (Holly) Davis, “they just want to be accepted”.

Apparently the American Library Association (ALA) doesn’t agree with Ms. Davis’ assessment. On their website they publish posts instructing librarians how they should “sneak” pro-LGBT messages into conservative communities.

These posts state that librarians and their staff should tell kids about LGBT materials even if their libraries don’t promote them. One post states, “So, you’re not doing Drag Queen Story Time [yet], but you’re probably doing regular old story time, right? Try to “sneak” inclusive messages into your current programs.”

It is also suggested that if a book doesn’t include LGBT characters, a librarian could add them. A reading to children could replace “Mama Bear” and “Papa Bear” with “Papa Bear” and Papa Bear.”

If a character’s gender isn’t mentioned, librarians should “change it up.” If a library resists pro-LGBT programming, librarians should ask every year for a pro-LGBT book display.

Eventually, the library (or county commissioners) might agree. (Sound familiar?)

I could continue, but instead invite the county commissioners to visit the website itself.

The “Gay Pride” movement is a political, cultural, and ideological movement with an agenda and it appears the Citrus Country commissioners are either ignorant about this agenda, naive, or sympathetic with it.
