Olly first gay Doctor Who?
British musician-actor Olly Alexander is reportedly set to be the new Doctor Who and will become the first-ever gay actor to play the Time Lord. It comes following reports that Jodie Whittaker has quit after half a decade of playing the iconic role, having taken over from Peter Capaldi in 2017. According to reports, Russell T Davies, previously an executive producer for Doctor Who, “championed” Olly, 30, for the role.
Years & Years’ Olly recently received critical acclaim for his role as Ritchie Tozer in Davies’ groundbreaking Channel 4 series, It’s A Sin. A source told The Sun: “Olly is on the verge of being announced as the new Doctor. Negotiations are at an advanced stage. Russell was impressed with his work and felt he was a great fit for the Doctor.”
Snapped up by Bond
Jordana Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez were convinced Phoebe Waller-Bridge would be the perfect addition to Fast & Furious, but was snagged by the Bond franchise before they could approach her. Jordana told THR: “Michelle and I were talking about her right before she started writing for Bond. We were like, ‘She would be so awesome.’ And then we were like, ‘Damnit! They snagged her’. I feel like Phoebe would add a lot.” Jordana also hopes for a female-fronted spinoff: “We could have Eva Mendes, Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron. There are so many ways we could go. The great news is we all love each other. I love working with Nathalie Emmanuel, Michelle. I think it would be really fun.”
On to bigger, better things
Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor has found her next big film role as she is all set to star in Sony Pictures’ I Heart Murder. Looks like Phoebe has solidified her foothold in the entertainment industry after her breakout role as Daphne in the hit Netflix series. The 26-year-old star has signed Sony Pictures’ upcoming big project to be helmed by ace filmmaker Matt Spicer. Deadline reported that the story is a female-driven thriller whose screenplay is written by both Tom O’Donnell and Spicer. Oscar-winner Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher’s Red Wagon Entertainment will produce. The plot of the project is being kept under wraps.
Right time for exit
Scarlett Johansson feels the time is right to leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The 36-year-old is playing the role of Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow for the final time in the standalone film Black Widow and feels it’s appropriate to bid farewell to the character she’s played since the 2010 film, Iron Man 2.
Scarlett told ComicBook.com: “Honestly, I feel like it’s always, it feels great to leave a party when it’s still raging and I think that this film (Black Widow) feels very much like it’s alive and fresh and powerful and I feel really pleased with it.
“I feel really happy with the work that we’ve done for this decade of time, and you know, it’s bittersweet to say ‘Goodbye’, but if you love something, you need to set it free!”
Dune deferred again
Warner Bros has shifted the much-awaited sci-fi film to three weeks later, putting it at October 22, 2021. As per Variety, it was previously set to release on October 1. The move was part of a larger release date shuffle by Warner Bros recently. The Many Saints of Newark was pushed back one week, taking the original spot held by Dune. The Sopranos prequel will now debut on October 1, a week later than its previous date of September 24.
This is the latest delay for Dune, helmed by Denis Villeneuve. The hotly-anticipated film was originally set for December 18, 2020, before being punted nearly a year to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film’s cast includes Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Jason Momoa and Javier Bardem.

Tom has tested +ve?
Mission: Impossible 7 filming has reportedly been paused again due to a positive Covid test with crew members speculating it could be Tom Cruise. Despite there being “no proof” to back up the idle talk, it has been claimed that people are gossiping it could be Tom, 58, due to his alleged absence on set.
A source told The Sun: “Filming on Mission Impossible 7 is on hold again because of coronavirus. And this time, those working on the production have said they think Tom could be the possible cause of the postponement. Everyone on the set was told that filming was being stopped again because of a positive test. And since then, Tom hasn’t been on set once.”
Quit at the peak
Quentin Tarantino has reiterated his plans to retire after making one more film as the Oscar-nominated filmmaker believes it is better to bid adieu when one is at their peak. Tarantino, known for avant garde cinema titles like Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill: Volume 1 and Volume 2, and Inglourious Basterds, said he wants to quit as he has given his 30-year long career “everything” he had. The director confirmed his plans to retire after his tenth film on Real Time With Bill Maher. “You’re too young to quit and you’re at the top of your game,” Maher said.
To which Tarantino, 58, replied, “That’s why I want to quit. Because I know film history and from here on end, directors do not get better.”
