Betty Joyce Johnson “Baby Gay” | Obituaries | timesvirginian.com – Times Virginian

On Thursday, August 5, 2021 Betty Joyce Johnson, affectionately known as “Baby Gay”, passed at her home in Appomattox, VA. Betty was born September 14, 1940 in Hot Coal, West Virginia to the late Percy Levi Johnson and Mattie Edna Hunter Johnson. She was the youngest of four children.

Betty was greatly loved and will be missed by family and friends. She loved and cared deeply for all her family and community. Betty graduated from Carver Price High School in 1959.  She was employed for many years at the Central Virginia Training School and the Salvation Army of Appomattox.  Betty was a faithful member of Mount Airy Baptist Church all of her life.  

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Lee Johnson and Viola “Billie” Johnson and one brother Otheaphus Johnson.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Dr. Amena Johnson of Hyattsville, MD (Nikki); one aunt, Luvinia Waller (James) of Philadelphia, PA; three nieces Brenda, Bonita and Karen (Tyrone) all of Appomattox, VA; three nephews Anthony (Jen) of Stephens City, VA; Chris (Angela) of Indian Trail, NC; and Maurice (Wanda) of Bronx, NY and a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.

Her Viewing & Visitation will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021 from 3pm – 6pm at the Bruce and Stiff Funeral Home located at 1121 Old Courthouse Road Appomattox, VA 24522. 

Betty’s Homegoing Service will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 2pm at Mt. Airy Baptist Church located at 167 Colemans Mill Road Gladstone, VA 24553. The burial is immediately following the Homegoing Service at the Johnson Family Cemetery, Abbitt Branch Road, Appomattox, VA.
