Bad Bunny is bringing a beloved gay YA novel to life.

After a competitive bidding situation, Netflix has won the rights to a series adaptation of Adam Silvera’s New York Times Bestselling YA novel They Both Die at the End — and Grammy-winning musician Bad Bunny is set to executive produce!

They Both Die at the End takes place in a world where a corporation called Death-Cast is able to accurately predict the deaths of individuals, and calls them to let them know when they have around 24 hours left to live.

On September 5, Death-Cast calls two boys, Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio, and the two boys must decide how to spend their last days on earth. Using an app called Last Friend, which hooks people who are living their last days up together so they don’t spend the day alone, Mateo and Rufus get to know each other and try to live an entire lifetime in a single day.

The book was first released in 2017 and became the first YA novel with queer Latine characters to hit number one on the New York Times bestseller list. It experienced a resurgence after it was included in the TikTok hashtag #BookTok, bringing it back to number one.

It’s now one of the most popular YA books around the globe, beating out Twilight in the UK and Australia.

Bad Bunny is exec producing along with Drew Comins and studio eOne, and Bridgerton creator Chris Van Dusen. Van Dusen, who created and showran the first two seasons of Netflix’s hit series Bridgerton, returns to the streamer, writing the pilot script.

Bad Bunny has been making his way into the worlds of TV and film, with appearances in projects like Bullet Train and Narcos: Mexico. He’s also starring in his own upcoming Sony Spider-Man Universe film El Muerto.
