‘Arson’ fire wrecks ‘gay disco’ near Perugia – English – Agenzia ANSA
(ANSA) – ROME, DEC 23 – A suspected arson fire on Friday
morning wrecked a disco near Perugia that has become a symbol
for the local LGBTQIA+ community, gay group Omphalos Lgbti said.
The blaze, which brought down much of the Lido Village’s
structure, was probably set by people who hate gays, they said.
“We are very concerned by what happened,” said Omphalos Lgbti
President Stefano Bucaioni.
“The Lido Village has been a reference point for the whole
LGBTQIA+ community of Umbria for more than 15 years. Omphalos
regularly organizes there its BeQueer fund-raising evenings,
attracting people from outside the regional confines. “We trust
that the authorities can shed full light, in the hope that a
violent act against our community can be ruled out”. (ANSA).
