While the Provo Pride celebration was canceled this year due to lack of funds, there is always space and time to worship and fellowship together.
On Sunday, the Provo Community Congregational Church of Christ will partner with Provo Pride, Keeping the Faith Downtown Provo, Flourish Therapy, Inc. and Community of Christ Church to join hands and host the annual Provo Pride Interfaith Service, according to a joint press release.
The interfaith service begins at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of at the Community Congregational United Church of Christ, 175 N. University Avenue.
The theme of the service will “An Abundance of Love”. The annual celebration of unity and love will be conducted by Jodie Palmer, a gay Christian blogger, and will include remarks by Pastor Topher Mehlhoff, ordained minister in the United Church of Christ and director of the Fourfold Project, and Melissa Malcom King, activist for the rights of the disabled, intersex and queer people. There will also be a reading by Pastor Tyler Marz with music provided by local singer and songwriter Esera and renowned church organist Dave Lewis.
The event will also include a special glitter blessing. A glitter blessing is an opportunity for clergy, faith communities and every-day people to share the love of God with LGBTQ+ people.
“It is an honor for the church to host this annual tradition in celebration of our LGBTQ+ friends. As an opening and affirming congregation, we welcome all through our doors with love not only to worship but to be active participants,” said Lewis, who is also the church music and public affairs director. “We are grateful to all those that have come together to organize this important event.”
All interested community members are invited to attend.
