A Gay Spider-Man Is Swinging Into Marvel Comics’ Spider-Verse – Pride.com

We’re ready to weave some spiderwebs, honey!

Comic book author Steve Foxe recently announced that Marvel is launching a gay Spider-Man character called Web-Weaver. This brand-new character will make its debut on the Edge of the Spider-Verse #5 comic book.

Web-Weaver was described by Marvel as the following:

“A not-so-mild mannered fashion designer at Van Dyne gets spider-powers and shows us a very different kind of Spider-Slayer.”

In a more recent update, Foxe talked about the pressure of creating a gay character within the Spider-Verse. The author tweeted:

“Something I realized immediately when conceiving Web-Weaver is that he can’t – and shouldn’t – represent ALL gay men. No single character can. His fearlessly femme identity is central to who he is, but it’s not the STORY… which you can experience for yourself in September!”

This is certainly the most significant spiderweb event in LGBTQ+ history since the Gwen Stefani-led No Doubt band released the hit single “Spiderwebs” in 1995.

Another character that will be introduced in this fifth issue of Edge of the Spider-Verse is Hunter-Spider, who is described as such: “Imagine a world where Sergei Kravinoff got Spider-Powers. You are not ready for the most hardcore Spider yet!”

We can’t wait for Web-Weaver and Hunter-Spider to join Marvel Comics’ Spider-Verse universe – and who knows, maybe this gay Spider-Man character will eventually make his way to the big screen!
