I must wholeheartedly agree with Patrick T. Reardon’s op-ed regarding the Catholic Church and same-sex marriage. Like Reardon, I have been a faithful Catholic and loyal to the church, if not some of its teaching, my entire life. I taught religious education for 16 years in my local parish, and one of the things I tried to impress upon my students was that God has given us the great gift of a free will by which he trusts us to make choices that bring happiness to us and those we encounter.
