With 1,800-plus yards and 25 total touchdowns, senior running back Holden Dailey helped lead Waterford to an 8-3 record and the second round of the playoffs.

Dailey, also a standout linebacker, was named to the Division VII All-Southeast District first team by the Ohio Prep Sports Writers Association.

Dailey finished the 2021 campaign with more than 1,500 rushing yards, 400 receiving yards and 100 tackles.

Classmates Owen Huck (offensive line), Grant McCutcheon (quarterback) and Jacob Huffman (defensive back) all were first team honorees also, as was junior Lane Cline (defensive back).

Huck played center for the Wildcats and was the team’s top O-lineman, helping pave the way for many of Dailey’s big runs.

McCutcheon completed 86 of 131 passes for nine touchdowns and three interceptions through the team’s first 10 games. He also racked up 82 tackles and had three interceptions on defense.

Huffman tallied 38 tackles and had a team-high four interceptions, while Cline added 88 tackles, two picks and 12 passes defended.

Seniors Andrew Taylor and Gavin Brooker were named special mention all-district, as was junior Jake Pantelidis to round out Waterford’s honorees.

In Division III, Marietta had three first team all-district selections.

The Tigers, who finished 4-6, saw seniors Aaron Hiener ((offensive line) and Zach Bartlett (running back) earn recognition, as well as junior Weston Davis (linebacker).

Hiener was a four-year starter at left tackle for Marietta. He helped protect the blindside for sophomore quarterback Tyler Gerber in the passing. For Bartlett, who rushed for 921 yards and 16 touchdowns on 189 carries, many of his biggest runs were to the left side behind Hiener’s 6-foot-1, 325-pound frame.

Bartlett also racked up 43 tackles and had two interceptions on defense.

Davis led the Tiger defense with 93 tackles to go along with two sacks, one interception and one forced fumble. He also made plays on offense as a tight end/halfback.

Senior Jeremiah Saffell was a special mention all-district pick for MHS.

Warren, which went 3-8 in 2021, had three first teamers selected in Division IV.

J.T. Rice, a 5-6, 165-pound linebacker, recorded a whopping 147 tackles this fall. Eleven of those tackles were behind the line of scrimmage. Rice, a senior, also forced a pair of fumbles to lead the Warren defense.

Fellow senior Dennis Pettey made first team as a tight end but would have also been worthy as an offensive lineman or on defense. He played wherever he was needed for head coach Matt Kimes. Offensively, Pettey finished with 27 catches, 186 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, he had 58 tackles, five tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and one blocked kick.

Sophomore running back Jason Williams also was a first teamer after carrying 134 times for 1,205 yards and 12 touchdowns. He put up those numbers despite missing some time due to injuries.

Freshman Nick Cressey was a special mention pick for the Warriors, who qualified for the playoffs this season by earning the 16 seed in Region 15.

Belpre, which went 2-8 this season, saw senior Jordan Martin (all-purpose) make the first team in Division VI. Martin hauled in 41 catches for 801 yards, rushed 43 times for 643 yards and score 20 total touchdowns for the Golden Eagles.

Classmate and brother Julian Martin was a special mention all-district pick as was junior Jayden Dowell.
