2020 in 60 Seconds winners announced – The Local Ne.ws

IPSWICH — Aspiring filmmakers were given lots of time to make it but given just 60 seconds to express it in ICAM’s online movie festival.

The local community TV station, ICAM (Ipswich Community Access Media) hosted its first ever juried film festival, called “ICAM presents: 2020 60seconds” last month as a livestream on the the station’s YouTube page.

Filmmakers were asked to make original films summing up the year 2020 in 60 seconds or less.

Top prizes were awarded for judge’s choice and audience choice. The winners got to select a $100 gift card to a local business of their choice. ICAM picked the prizes as “an opportunity to support the local economy during the COVID 19 pandemic.”

On the night of the online festival, the event included a variety of special elements and guests, including an original song about Ipswich by Bix MacMaghan (Callum Mackenzie), and was hosted by a puppet named Giraffe of Triple Yeah Productions.

Short films were featured from all over the country, ranging from comedy, horror, hand drawn animation, to films shot on mobile phones.

Throughout the night, several community members, who are also ICAM presenters, appeared with videos of their reflections about 2020.

They included Paul Valcour and George Pacheco of “Grumpy Old Men Cooking,” Rick Murawski of “Captain Rick’s Adventures” and an original poem from Katie Shannon of “Taking Care of You with Mrs. Magoo.”

The event was hosted and organized by ICAM’s production coordinator Alexandra Derderian, and tech and graphics were created by ICAM’s production assistant Kylie Smith.

Hannah Reilly of Rowley won judge’s choice for her film “2020 Scrapbook,” Jim Warren of Lowell won second place for his animation “COVID Reflections,” and Dylan Kaufman of Somerville won third place for his animation “Binge Watch”.

Rex Satter of Ipswich won audience choice for his stop motion titled “2020”.

ICAM organizers said they “look forward to hosting another themed film festival next year.”

“ICAM presents: 2020 in 60seconds” can be seen on ICAM’s public channels Comcast 9 and Verizon 33 Wednesday at 1 p.m., Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 5 p.m. in Ipswich as well as on the ICAM Ipswich Youtube page.
