1st Round of Mount Gay Caribbean Cocktail Competition Ends on High Note – St. Lucia News From The Voice – The Voice St. Lucia
Bartenders from across the region were given an opportunity to become recognised internationally, for their mixology skills, through the Mount Gay Rum International Bartenders Competition. The event was organised locally by CPJ Saint Lucia, the official distributors of Mount Gay Rum.
The local leg of the event took place on Saturday 25 June, with six participants vying for the title and a $500 USD cash prize. Organisers believe that their selected Saint Lucian Mixologist has what it takes to win the overall competition. He was awarded an all expenses paid trip to Barbados, where the 2nd leg of the competition will be held in August 2022, for International Rum Day, and the grand prize winner will attend the London Rum Festival from 14-18 October 2022.
Judges emphasized the importance of the use of local produce when competing, especially on international grounds. Participants in this year’s competition are very experienced, feel confident in their mixology skills and applaud initiatives such as this one which bring together talented bartenders for much needed exposure to the industry.
The local leg of the competition comprised three placements, including the overall winner, Mr. Ed Richard, who will represent Saint Lucia at first the Regional, then the International leg of the competition. Caribbean Producers St. Lucia Limited (CPJ), Wines & Spirits Sales Manager, Denver Alcee, along with the team, would like to extend their congratulations and best wishes to Mr. Ed Richard.
